Adapted by author Robert E. Sherwood from his Pulitzer Prize-winning Broadway Smash, Idiot's Delight is a provocative comedy highlighting the versatility of legendary MGM stars Clark Gable and Norma Shearer. A jaunty song-and-dance man who heads a travelling troupe of chorines is performing at a posh Alpine inn. There, he meets a gorgeous Russian aristocrat. Is she the real thing, he wonders, or a phony? Although blonde, exotic Countess Irene sports stunning gowns and a broad Russian accent, and she reminds hoofer Harry Van of an acrobat who shared the vaudeville stage and a brief love affair with him at a seedy hotel back in Omaha, Nebraska. For all its playful mystery, Idiot's Delight has serious undertones. Europe is arming to the teeth, and war seems certian. Harry and the countess are reluctant to take sides, but they must face relaity when the resort is attacked from the air.
